Today I looked through my Computer Tricks for Scrapbooking 2 magazine by Jessica Sprague to try something new to share with you. Here is something easy you can do for a different look on a page. I chose to use it on a baby scrapbooking page. Add your pictures to your page first. Then add a circular shape or embellishment. Next, you are going to use the horizontal text tool (in photoshop), and add each letter separately on its own layer. Once you get them all on for your word, click on each letter. Go to the corner of the box that appears and when two arrows appear that are bent in an arch, you can then move your mouse to rotate the letter. Do this for each one until they follow your circle shape. Once you get the hang of it, it is quick and easy to do. I used it on this page for the word “SWEET” so I could fit it around the photo.
If you are looking for a great free digital quickpage to use with baby pictures you have come to the right place. All you need to do is download the file and then place the picture on the layer underneath the quickpage. The options are almost endless. Just add your own personalization like dates, names, text and any other embellishments if you wish and you’re all done. To see the picture I used look for my “Baby Love” digital page from a previous post. I used a digital kit called “Oh, Baby” from my friend at Digital Arts Cafe. It is such a versatile kit that I will be using it for other subjects also. Hope you like your digital treat from me. Have fun creating a stinkin’ cute page!
Hello all! Here is another beautiful page made easy by my friend with the adorable baby and a great digital scrapbooking kit called “Oh, Baby” by my designer friend, Karyn, over at Digital Arts Cafe. I would not think of using orange paper for a baby layout, but these colors make this page really pop. It was quite easy to make “ribbon” strip pieces out of some of the paper in the kit. I just cut out narrow strips and placed them on the page. The buttons from the kit also add a cute little touch to the page. The alpha letters are also a part of the kit and just love how they look. Don’t forget to date your pages as those babies grow up so fast. Either include how old they are or the date the picture was taken and if you’re really chronologically obsessed include both! I’m going to make this page layout into a freebie to offer on the blog, so be sure to come back and get it!
Hello all! I’m excited to show you some pages I’ve been working on made with a new “Oh, Baby” kit given to me by my designer friend, Karyn, over at Digital Arts Cafe. I suggested that she design a baby kit using some not so typical colors(aka pink and blue). She took my idea and ran with it and I love what she came up with. This kit is so versatile I will be using it for many pages about kids and not just for baby pages. One of my college friends emailed me some great pictures of her baby foster child to play with and the pictures are just so cute that anything I do with them will look great! On this page are some pictures of him in a running suit looking sporty so this page is titled, “Daddy’s Little All-Star.” I was just checking so I could add the link for the kit and it is also on sale right now for cheap! I would suggest checking it out.

Last summer my cousin and his family came to Wisconsin to visit. Their son had never had s’mores before so we had a campfire and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows (s’mores) over the fire. My girls also love this campfire tradition when we go camping and to visit Grandma and Grandpa up north. I hadn’t been digital scrapping for very long when I did this page so you can see that a pretty nice page is a snap when you do it digitally. The papers and the template I used were all free. Some were from Scrapgirls.com and the template with the ripped paper look is called the Cottage Arts Template Tear Sampler if you want to locate it online. I can’t remember which site it was, but that should help you find it in a search.
Have you thought about trying digital scrapbooking? I made the leap last summer. I kept seeing more and more digital layouts in scrapbooking magazines and wondered what you all needed to get started. I saw an ad in Creating Keepsakes for a free e-book on the “15 Things You Need to Know About Digital Scrapbooking.” It took me to the Scrapgirls.com website where they happened to be having a sale on their digital scrapping tutorial series. I bought that and Adobe Photoshop Elements and I was on my way. Once you take the time to do a little bit of learning about the software, digital scrapbooking is really quite easy! I have since done a number of layouts and just like regular scrapbooking, you can make it as easy or intensely complicated as you like. At least with digital scrapping you can hit the undo button. I am still learning of course but the best thing about taking on this new challenge was just that fact–it was a new challenge, and my brain was stimulated in new ways that brought me excitement and energy. If you’re up for a little challenge and lots of fun, give it a try!
Another question I’m often asked is, “How do you know what size album to use?” and “Which style do you like the best?” When I’m thinking about scrapbooking different topics, I determine how many pictures I think I’m going to take for each one. For example, I take a lot of pictures at Christmas during the holiday season so I definitely use a 12×12 to get many pictures on a page. I usually do the 8×8 size when I am doing a gift for someone or I have a very specific trip or occasion that I’m scrapbooking. About 40 or so photos will easily fill a standard 8×8 album, so if you have more than that you will need refill pages. I have used both post-bound and strap-hinge albums. I have found that K & Company albums and refills seem to work best for me. The top-loading post bound album is a true to size 12×12 so your pages will fit right in. Some albums I have are not true to size, and of course I forget which ones, so I end up trimming my pages before I can put them in the album.
Here’s a question I was asked about scrapbooking. What two tools do you use the most when you scrapbook? I would have to say that I use my Herma Vario Adhesive Tabs and my 12X12 paper Fiskars Paper Trimmer the most. I’m always cutting paper for my pages as I’m creating. My children also use it when they have school projects or want to do crafts. My Herma Tab Adhesive is what I use the most for adhering my pictures and paper to my pages. It isn’t perfect. I’m still searching for the perfect adhesive, so if you use one that works better let me know. My kids also use my adhesive when working on projects for school or their own scrapbooks and crafts so I actually bought two of those because when one is using it the other will want to do some sort of project too.
Hey there! This week will be “Scrapbooking Advice” week on the blog. Do you have any current projects you are stuck on? How about any products you want to know about? I’m here for you this week to answer all of those scrapbooking questions you have. I know when I first got into scrapbooking about ten years ago, there wasn’t nearly the amount of products for this hobby that there is now. Now it is almost overwhelming for me, the experienced scrapbooker, to walk into a craft store. There is just so much out there related to this hobby. I can’t even imagine being a beginner and then being bombarded with all of the latest and greatest of the scrapbooking craze. So here’s your chance to ask any questions related to our hobby. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll do some research for you. Just go ahead and leave me a comment by clicking “responses to this post” at the end of this post. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
